Introduction to Studio Lighting

DESCRIPTION:

An overview of the use of studio strobe lights in a studio setting. This is as much as possible a hands-on class. You will be using the lights, not just hearing about them. Bring your camera to shoot with the strobes or borrow one.

SKILLS LEARNED:

How strobes work
How to setup and use them, including modifiers
How to meter
Set up and shoot one-light portraits

PREREQUISITES:

You don’t have to know anything about studio lighting. This is an intro meant for beginners with such lighting. However, if you bring your own camera to use, be sure you know how to use it in full manual mode and can set ISO, shutter speed, and aperture fluently. Be sure to know your camera’s synch speed. If you wish, you can have the use a full-frame DSLR for the course for an extra fee.
